DESCRIPTION:Join us this Sunday\, August 2\, from 11am-12pm (meet near the Gazebo)\, as we stand together to recognize that every person deserves to feel valued\, appreciated\, and most importantly\, safe from intimidation and fear in Hingham and our country. We have been disheartened by the discord over recent events here. We seek to unite rather than divide\, to find common ground that we can build on to move forward and demonstrate the values our community stands for. \nWe recognize the dignity of those who have chosen to serve and protect us and acknowledge different perspectives\, but we completely reject any divisive symbol that encourages hatred and evokes fear within our community\, whether intended or not. We believe that supporting people of color and supporting Hingham’s police\, firefighters and other first responders who serve our community are not mutually exclusive.  \nThis year has tested the resilience and patience of our community and our nation. We know that not only can we weather these challenging times\, but we can emerge more united and more supportive of one another. This will require all of us to reflect\, listen and open our minds and hearts. Please join us in this step forward to build a more inclusive community. \nEveryone is encouraged to wear their town apparel and join us to show that there is no room for intolerance in Hingham and beyond. We welcome our friends from surrounding communities who wish to join us.  \nWe are very sensitive to the ongoing health crisis. Participants are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing.

Kendi’s Stamped: Racism\, Antiracism\, and You\, a book that chronicles the history of racist ideas–and shares ways readers can identify and stamp out racist thoughts in their daily lives. \nOpen to ages 13+. Books will be loaned to participants in honor of Dr. Holly Carter & Dr. Caitlin Slodden\, leaders of Sacred Ground at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The discussion will be moderated by high school and college-aged leaders and is co-sponsored by the Hingham High School ACLU. We can also facilitate “family” reading groups based on interest (that is\, if your family wants to read the book together and discuss with one or two other families). \nAbout the Book\nStamped: Racism\, Antiracism\, and You\nBy Jason Reynolds & Ibram X. Kendi \nThe construct of race has always been used to gain and keep power\, to create dynamics that separate and silence. This remarkable reimagining of Dr. Ibram X.
