This is a powerful documentary and we thought some of our members might be interested in viewing and participating in a virtual discussion about it.
The Hingham-Hull Religious Leaders Invite You To a Viewing and Discussion on Sunday, November 8, at 3 p.m.
In November 1940, days after the Nazis sealed 450,000 Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto, a secret band of journalists, scholars and community leaders decided to fight back. Led by historian Emanuel Ringelblum and known by the code name Oyneg Shabes, this clandestine group vowed to defeat Nazi lies and propaganda not with guns or fists but with the ultimate weapon: the truth. (96 min.) Who Will Write Our History documents and reenacts the everyday events and personal experiences of the Jewish men and women who experienced firsthand the barbaric behaviors that led to their ultimate deaths. The Oyneg Shabes archive, which numbers over 60,000 items, compiled artifacts from that time: newspapers, diaries, photos, and firsthand accounts. And it is from this archive that Roberta Grossman created and directed this film.
