We invite you to invest in our Third Annual Juneteenth Celebration to be held Monday, June 19, 2023 from 3-5pm at the Bandstand at Hingham Harbor.

The HUC feels this is an incredible opportunity for our Town and members from neighboring communities to come together to celebrate the resilience, solidarity and culture of our Black community and remind us of the ongoing work to be done in pursuit of freedom, justice and equality for all.

To extend the reach of this year’s event, which commemorates the date the news of the end of slavery finally reached Texas – June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, our planning committee includes members from several other South Shore towns, as well as Hingham’s METCO families. This diverse group of volunteers will make this year’s event bigger and better than ever, with some exciting new entertainment and the addition of an inflatable obstacle course, face painting, and other fun activities for young families. Returning once again will be delicious fan-favorite food from Morrell’s BBQ, live music, including a moving performance of the Black National Anthem by acclaimed gospel singer Rakeem Andre and our student arts expression contest based on this year’s theme “Why is it important to commemorate Juneteenth?”

This is a vital event for our region and we’d love to have you partner with us to help bring it to life. Your generosity will help us fund the entertainment, activities, and marketing for this fun, free, family celebration. We are also thrilled to have received a Festival and Project Grant form the Massachusetts Cultural Council at the Celebration Sponsor level, but we need additional sponsors to bring this celebration to life!

The Hingham Unity Council is fiscally sponsored by the South Shore Unity Council, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Your donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of applicable law.
